Every tree will be planted within the orchard of our 78-acre New Warlands Farm development in County Durham.

We have a variety of trees available for planting. The full list is listed in the page below. If you donate £200 you will get an option to select from a variety of trees that will be planted on the farm with a personalised plaque next to your tree.

Types of trees

Discovery

Introduced in the 1940s, this popular English apple ripens early in the season and is tart and sweet – with some people tasting notes of strawberry in a good year. A perfect tree to gift the most unique people in your life!

Katy

A bright red and easy-going apple, this Swedish variety (known as Katja in its home country) is closely related to the Discovery. Katys flourish in a range of environments and make exceptional juice. A great apple to gift someone whose shine lights up your world.

Red Devil

Ripening mid-way into the apple season, Red Devils are renowned for their sweet and fruity flavour. With striking red skin and white flesh, this variety makes a fantastic pink tinged juice, and its name makes it a great gift for supporters of a certain football team.

Red Windsor

A crisp, refreshing apple with a modern heritage – only discovered in 1993! Although the tree is small, it’s hardy and grows abundant fruit. A good gift for a 90s kid.

Scrumptious

Like its name suggests, Scrumptious is an early ripening apple which is full of flavour. With complex notes including hints aniseed, this apple is amazing for the connoisseurs in your life!

Three Counties (Cider)

A modern cider apple from the West Country, which brings bittersweet elements to a cider blend. The tree produces good fruit at a young age, making this a perfect gift for someone talented beyond their years!

Fiona (Cider)

A sharp and hard-working cider apple, one of the ‘girls’ group of cider apples, a modern grouping that all share women’s names. A perfect gift for mums or just one of the girls!

Tremlett’s Bitter (Cider)

A popular Devon cider apple with a strong heritage dating back to the 19th Century. Tremlett’s Bitter lends cider a bold, full-bodied flavour, and is a great choice for classic cider lovers or history buffs.

Stella

Originating from beautiful British Colombia in Canada, this cherry tree produces large, dark red fruit. Juicy and full flavoured, it’s a fantastic dessert cherry and a great gift for someone with a sweet tooth.

Summer Sun

A hardy British cherry with exquisite flavour and a firm bite. Despite its name, it still produces plenty of cherries even after a rainy British summer! A gift for someone who always makes the best of things.

Sweetheart

With its striking name that makes it an ideal gift for a loved one, cherries from this tree flourish later in the season but are well worth the wait.

Farleigh

Perfect for cooking, these small, blue-black damsons are ideal for pies, jams, and wine. Full of tart flavour, Farleigh damsons are a great gift for the bakers in your life.

Merryweather

A very large damson, close to a plum in size, which can be eaten straight from the tree when perfectly ripe. Juicy and acidic, it also makes great jams and preserves. With some controversy about whether it is a ‘true damson’, this tree is a wonderful gift for someone who always stands out from the crowd.

Shropshire

Also known as a Prune Damson, or Shropshire Prune, this tree has origins way back in the 17th century! Although it originated in the Midlands, it’s now considered the classic damson of Northern England. Great for a history fan!

Concorde

A hardy, modern tree which is one of the best varieties for organic growing. Concorde pears are sweet, juicy, and have a wonderful texture. A Concorde tree is the perfect choice for a nature lover!

Conference

Named after the National British Pear Conference held in 1885, this classic variety is one of the widest grown pears in Europe. Ripening in early autumn, with a flavour that won’t disappoint, it makes a great gift for someone who loves the changing seasons!

Doyenne du Comice

A French varietal first discovered in the first half of the 19th Century, the Doyenne du Comice is an excellent quality pear with a rich flavour, and makes an excellent gift for someone who enjoys the finer things in life.

Czar

A large plum that ripens in late Summer, the Czar is great for jams, chutneys, and crumbles. Named after the Russian Emperor, who was visiting the UK at the time of its creation, a Czar plum tree is a great gift for someone regal and stately!

Opal

A reliable tree with some of the most flavoursome early season plums. Opal plums do well with plenty of sunny weather, so these trees make a great gift for someone who loves to soak up the sun.

Victoria

This popular and versatile plum is excellent for eating fresh and cooking into jams, crumbles, and pies. With a curious origin in the 1840s, it isn’t clearly known where this tree came from or who first grew it, making it an intriguing gift for someone who likes to be mysterious.

Meech’s Prolific

Prized for its ornamental properties as well as its fruit, these quince trees have a distinctive sweet scent and large, subtly pink flowers. The fruit makes excellent jams and jellies. Despite quince’s mediterranean origins, it grows well in the UK, and would make a great gift for someone who loves a taste of the med.

Serbian Gold

With its golden, apple shaped fruit, this Serbian tree is known locally as ‘Leschovach’ and makes an excellent quince jelly. With striking pale pink blossoms and aromatic fruit, this tree is as good as its precious namesake as a gift!

Common Elder

Native to the UK, elder can be found across the country as an important part of hedgerows and woods. Thought to have magical properties, its name comes from the Old English ‘Aeld’, meaning fire, as its hollow stems could be used to stoke a flame. Used as a traditional flavouring, it’s the perfect gift for old souls!

Evereste

This small tree stuns with beautiful white blossoms in spring, and is attractive to pollinators like bees, and butterflies. The fruit resemble miniature Gala apples, and can be picked for jellies or apple sauces, or left for birds in winter. A great choice for fans of busy bees!

Golden Hornet

With beautiful pink budded white flowers which mature into striking golden orange crab apples, this tree is a real looker! As well as being great for wildlife, its fruit can be added to cider or used to make jelly. A fantastic tree for someone who’s always dressed to the nines!

Red Sentinel

Often used to create Christmas decorations, this tree bears hundreds of small, cherry-like crab apples that bring an amazing splash of colour to winter. One of the most striking crab apple varieties, it’s also loved by birds, and provides them with plenty of food in the colder seasons. A perfect gift for lovers of Christmas!
